In my premarital sessions, I start with what's already working. Every couple walks in with real strengths, and most of them haven't named those strengths out loud yet. We do that first, then we make them sturdy enough to lean on later.
Then we get to the harder part. Every marriage has difficult moments and that isn't a red flag, it's just part of life. What separates the couples who make it through is those who have a way to work through conflict before they're in the middle of it. That's what we build together, while things are still good.
